Waste management is entering its technology era

Advetec is proud to share that, alongside our partner Go4Greener Waste Management, we were awarded Highly Commended; Finalists in Energy from Waste Innovation Achievement of the Year at the 2026 Awards for Excellence in Recycling & Waste Management.

While industry recognition is always appreciated, this moment represents something bigger than an award.

It reflects a shift already underway across the sector: waste management is entering its technology era.

For decades, the industry has largely relied on established disposal routes and incremental operational improvements. But the landscape is changing rapidly. Tightening legislation, landfill restrictions, rising disposal costs, decarbonisation pressures, and increasingly complex waste streams are exposing the limits of traditional systems. The next generation of waste challenges cannot be solved by yesterday’s infrastructure alone.

Innovation is no longer a future ambition, it is a present requirement.

Our partnership with Go4Greener Waste Management is built around exactly this belief: that difficult waste streams require new thinking, new infrastructure, and new technologies capable of recovering more value from waste while reducing reliance on landfill and conventional disposal.

Together, we are demonstrating how biotechnology can unlock new pathways for waste that has historically been difficult, expensive, or environmentally challenging to manage.

Recognition in the Energy from Waste category is especially meaningful because it highlights the growing role of innovation in redefining what resource recovery can look like. Not all innovation in waste management needs to be theoretical, years away, or dependent on large-scale infrastructure change. Some of it is available now.

That is where the real opportunity lies. The organisations that will lead the next chapter of this industry are those willing to adopt smarter technologies, rethink legacy processes, and move faster in response to regulatory and environmental pressures.

This recognition is an exciting milestone for both teams—but it is very much just the beginning.
